Holiday Cottages in Normandy - Local Area

From the apple trees and dovecotes of rural Normandy to the ancient streets and houses of Rouen, there is plenty to see and do in Normandy. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of quiet roads, wildlife and flowers. The pace of life in Normandy is unhurried allowing you to relax and forget the stresses of city life.

Normandy is steeped in history. Joan of Arc was burned at the stake here in 1432. Monet used one of Rouen's magnificent 13th century cathedrals as the subject of a series of paintings. The last successful invasion of Britain left Normandy in 1066 and the liberation of the western European mainland from the Nazis began in 1944 on the now famous beaches of Calvados. In the region's capital, Caen, lie the ruins of William the Conqueror's enormous stronghold.

The climate is warmer than England though not too hot. Beaches are clean and empty with clear waters perfect for swimming in. The surrounding land is lush and green. Local fish and seafood are fresh and tasty and best washed down with cider or Calvados, the local drink.
